Troubleshooting
Review draft. This source page has not completed website editorial and release-specific verification.
| Symptom | Evidence to check |
|---|---|
| Actor absent from a save | Component exists; Enable and manual/autosave selection are on; registration count includes it; Actor lifecycle/policy permits capture. Inspect result warnings and Actor count. |
| Property absent/not restored | Capture mode, SaveGame flag, explicit exact path, and supported reflected type. Arrays, pointers, arbitrary nested objects are not arbitrary graph traversal. |
| RequiredContributorMissing | Save document lacks an ID for a currently registered Required contributor. Enable/register the owning bridge or load a compatible document. V1 intentionally fails. |
| Contributor schema mismatch | Saved and current versions differ. V1 has no contributor migration callback. |
| Unknown optional contributor | Warning + skip. Enable the owning optional integration if state is needed. |
| Unknown required contributor | Restore fails because required data cannot be handled. Enable its product/integration. |
| SlotNotFound | Verify exact slot name and user index; names are not normalized. C++ DoesSlotExist provides preflight. |
| Corrupt/truncated bytes | Check InvalidSaveFormat / IntegrityCheckFailed, developer message, warnings and diagnostics. Do not hand-edit bytes. |
| Unsupported future version | Runtime rejects unsupported future wrapper/file/record versions. Use a compatible runtime; do not change version fields manually. |
| Async operation failed | Bind both terminal events. Inspect status, severity, user/developer messages, warnings and handle; rejection may happen before acceptance. |
| Autosave does not start | Check enabled setting, IsReady(), interval minimum, and active blocker IDs/count. |
| Need to observe state in the Editor | Open Tools > Director Suite > Runtime Inspectors > SaveGame Director Runtime Inspector. It observes the selected PIE/Game Instance without changing SaveGame Director state. |
| Need to issue an Editor save/load or autosave command | Open Tools > Director Suite > Runtime Controls > SaveGame Director Runtime Controls. Save writes persistent state; Load can replace live runtime state. |
| WorldState missing | For canonical WorldState persistence, provide the authoritative World State plugin in the host and enable the optional DirectorBridge integration, then confirm WorldState.SaveGame is Active. A currently registered Required contributor without a saved record fails restore. |
| SaveGame SignalBus command ignored | Enable the optional DirectorBridge SaveGame.SignalBus integration and SignalBus; publish to the correct Game Instance scope and inspect the result/lifecycle messages. |
| Sparse Shipping diagnostics | Detailed Actor diagnostics default off in Shipping; retained event/warning limits may also be zero. Result status/messages remain the primary signal. |
