Known Limitations
Probability Director 1.1.3 has a few intentional Version 1 limits. Most of these are scope boundaries rather than defects.
Name Models
Section titled “Name Models”Version 1 supports:
- Character N-Gram Markov name generation.
- Explicit Weighted Syllable name generation.
Not currently supported:
- Automatic linguistic syllabification.
- Automatically inserting separators between syllables.
- Calculating the complete probability distribution for every possible full generated name.
If you need syllable-based names, author the syllables and any spaces, hyphens, or punctuation explicitly.
Markov Analysis
Section titled “Markov Analysis”Markov analysis currently evaluates the exact outgoing transition probabilities for one state at a time.
Not currently supported:
- Multi-step transition-matrix analysis.
- Matrix exponentiation.
- Stationary-distribution analysis.
The Runtime can still sample normal Sequential and Keyed Markov transitions.
Platform Support
Section titled “Platform Support”The bundled Version 1 release is validated for:
Unreal Engine 5.7Win64Other platforms have not been validated for this release.
Blueprint vs. C++
Section titled “Blueprint vs. C++”Most common Probability Director gameplay operations are available to Blueprint, but some advanced functionality remains C++ only.
C++ only
Section titled “C++ only”- Weighted Outcome Bias.
- Detailed Dice trace and provenance.
- Persistence internals.
Deferred Blueprint functionality
Section titled “Deferred Blueprint functionality”- General pipeline classification API.
Mixed Dice expressions, symbolic outcomes, and Success Count operations are available only where the current public Blueprint/Runtime API explicitly supports them.
RNG State Is Intentionally Hidden
Section titled “RNG State Is Intentionally Hidden”Blueprint does not expose:
- Raw RNG bytes.
- Generator state.
- Secure roots.
- Generator keys or nonces.
- Numeric Sequential position.
This is intentional.
Gameplay should request random results through the public Probability Director API rather than manipulating generator internals directly.
Persistence
Section titled “Persistence”Probability Director provides Runtime persistence support, but its low-level persistence internals remain native C++.
Probability Director does not encrypt persistence data.
If your save files require confidentiality or encryption, that must be handled by your game’s save/storage system.
Diagnostics and Warnings
Section titled “Diagnostics and Warnings”Version 1 diagnostics include the currently documented Stream, operation, persistence, and validation warnings.
Not currently implemented:
- Timing/rate warnings.
- Dice-pressure warnings.
These are deferred features and are not required for normal Probability Director operation.
SaveGame Director
Section titled “SaveGame Director”SaveGame Director and DirectorBridge are optional. Probability Director works without either plugin.
Pairwise SaveGame integration is not supported in current releases. Projects that use both owners can use the optional DirectorBridge integration Probability.SaveGame. The Probability core has no required DirectorBridge or SaveGame Director dependency.
